AUSTRALIA

NEW SOUTH WALES

For 2024: this year’s march and function are fast approaching. There are some amendments to order of march this year which means we will revert to a later march off from our location, this year in Phillip St. facing north towards Hunter St at 11:15am ish. As usual we will be marching within the air force contingent. We should still arrive around 12noon at our meeting destination, The Castlereagh Boutique Hotel. Please advise your ability to attend either the march and /or the function afterwards as soon as practical. For those new attendees please feel free to bring photos of your relatives and if you have not already viewed our website then check out www.458raafsquadron.org where you will be able to locate all sorts of historical information covering the squadron's activities during WW2 and beyond. As 2025 marks the 80th Anniversary of the cessation of the second world war we can discuss a reunion opportunity that may eventuate in Malta in October, 2025.

VICTORIA

For 2024 for 458 Victoria Flight marching in Melbourne CBD, the form up location point is (same as last year) Flinders St. east of Swanston St. on the northern side of Flinders St. Look out for the 458 Banner.. Please meet by 9.45 am sharp for a 10.50 am start/step-off. This map shows the form up location.

As usual, the AGM will be held at the at Jardin Tan Café, Royal Botanic Gardens, Birdwood Ave, South Yarra VIC 3141, opposite the eastern entrance to The Shrine of Remembrance. Commencing close to 12 noon.

For 2024: We are meeting at the Kensi Hotel on ANZAC Day at noon. All SA Flight members welcome. Please contact Dave Cosh. Lunch is at the Kensington Hotel, 23 Regent Street, Kensington, at noon. Everyone is welcome and please let Dave Cosh (0417867277) know if you are planning to attend.

For 2023 for 458 NSW Flight marching in Sydney CBD please form up around 10:am facing north in Castlereagh St probably between Market and King St. We are very much at the rear of RAAF this year so I would guess we will be marching much later than usual. Look forward to seeing you all there followed by our gathering at The Castlereagh Boutique Hotel. Please advise if you can attend in order that we can provide a number to the hotel. In light of the ongoing risk of COVID-19 transmission, this year the New Zealand High Commission Pretoria, South Africa and Australian High Commission will not be hosting a public #ANZACDay service. Instead, we encourage you to mark the day with your friends and family, take some time to reflect on the service and sacrifice of our veterans and to view an online service. We look forward to a time in the future when we can come together more widely as a community to commemorate this important day and honour all those who have served.

ANZAC Day 2020

AUSTRALIA

In this unprecedented time of the worldwide coronavirus pandemic all public Anzac Day 2020 commemoration services in Australia have been cancelled. There will be a nationally televised commemorative service from the Australian War Memorial at 5.30 am. And the RSL is encouraging households to participate on a personal level by standing in their driveway (or balcony) at 6 am.  Check your local RSL for details of how you can participate in this way, also see the National RSL website and State Branch website links shown there e.g. here is the Western Australia WA RSL commemoration page:

ANZAC Day 2019

MELBOURNE, VICTORIA

The Dawn Service at the Shrine of Remembrance will start this special day (at 6 am). Those of you who wish to join us for breakfast at the Jardin Tan (formerly the Observatory Cafe) which is located directly opposite the eastern steps of the Shrine, straight after the Service, are most welcome. The Dawn Service is a most emotionally rewarding experience that focuses on why we as a society have the freedoms we enjoy today.

After breakfast, 458 Squadron Victoria Flight will be forming up next to Flinders Street Station, just west of Swanston Street. Please look out for the 458 Squadron Banner. We will be there from about 9:30am if you would like to come early for a chat. Form up time is at 10:00am sharp and step off is 10:20am. This early formation is a request from the RSL.

After the march please join us at 12 noon for our Victoria Flight AGM and light lunch at the Jardin Tan Restaurant.
